The legendary Capitol Theater in Port Chester, NY is celebrating its 10th anniversary of reopening under the ownership of Peter Shapiro this fall. Today the venue announced the kick off of the CAP10 season with two sold-out shows by the Avett Brothers on August 27 and 28, continuing the celebrations through the end of 2022 with Ben Folds, The National, Pink Floyd’s Nick Mason, ZZ Top, Steve Vai, Jeff Beck, Rick Springfield, Lindsey Buckingham and Nine Nights with Grateful Dead co-founder Phil Lesh.
September 23 will also be officially proclaimed The Capitol Theater Day in Port Chester, commemorating what The Cap stands for: live music, community and spreading joy around the world through concerts. There will also be community volunteer events, a CAP10 beer brewed exclusively by Captain Lawrence, newly designed products, never-before-seen archive videos, and more.
Shapiro said of the decade-long celebration, “Wow, 10 years! I still can’t believe we’ve been blessed with over 1,000 shows since 2012 at what is (still) the best live music venue in America. The Capitol Theater is truly one of a kind, as a rock palace like this simply cannot be built new. We need more of the energy these places create, especially in the times we live in. The magic of The Cap is something that uplifts musicians and fans alike, and our entire team is thrilled to celebrate our 10th anniversary. We remain very excited to continue bringing the magic of live music to people across America of all ages and backgrounds. Long live Cape Town!!!”
Pillar Phil Lesh added, “Since the Capitol Theater began in the early 1970s, between the Grateful Dead, Furthur and Phil Lesh & Friends, I’ve performed on this stage nearly 100 times. Thanks to the fans and Cap Family for helping bring the magical adventure full circle, and congratulations on your first 10 years!
