Nancy Gill had dreamed of acting since childhood, but being a daughter of defense personnel, she felt that it would not be acceptable to her family. But the girl continued to quietly improve and took a job as a cabin crew to finally give wings to her acting aspirations.

“From modeling, acting, television to webcasts, I graduated with baby steps. I feel blessed to have been able to start with a role as a dacoit in the series Chidiyaghara cop in the OTT series Shubh Mangal Mein Dangal then I had the opportunity to play the character of a bar girl in one of my future projects. I’ve always believed that when I desperately want something, the universe conspires to make it happen. It might take a little longer but it will get to you eventually, it just takes hard work with a lot of passion.”

Gill shares that she had to take a longer path to achieve her acting dream. “I come from Chandigarh and my parents wanted me to become a doctor. While I always wanted to become an actor but I knew that I would not get permission for the same. I participated in all possible extracurricular activities. I prepared for medical school but failed then after graduating in science I took a job in an airline in Delhi and started flying around the world “, she says.

On board, a conversation with Bollywood singer Sunidhi Chauhan fueled his conviction. “I often met actors on the flights. After a conversation with her, I realized how much she followed her passion and it reaffirmed my self-confidence. I broke the news to my family but they slowly accepted my career choices and I came to Mumbai. I did my first TV show while working as a cabin crew. Then I got an offer for the daily soap Neeli Chatri Wali but then I realized that I needed to know more, so I quit my job.

Gill trained in theatre. “I did workshops with acting coach Saurabh Sachdeva sir, another in Pondicherry, learned kathak in Mumbai, worked as a trainee in Baaghi-2trained for one year in kalaripayattu in Goa and staged a play Kya Karoon O Ladies. Print and TV commercials kept me afloat and I was lucky enough to work with Ranveer Singh and Akshay Kumar sir.

In her last show, she played Ada Khan’s older sister. “I play his sister who is also the best cop in town. Then I also shot for an OTT series but I can’t say much about that. Then I hope to shoot a Punjabi movie in my country of origin as soon as we are in the final stages of the talks. Unfortunately, my father passed away just as my acting career started to take shape. I’m sure he would have been proud of me!
