Scott Summers/Cyclops debuted in Marvel Comics in 1963 x-men #1 by artist Jack Kirby and writer Stan Lee and is considered the first X-Man. He was first portrayed by James Marsden in the original x-men trilogy, although younger versions of the character were played by Tim Pocock in 2009 X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and by Tye Sheridan in 2016 X-Men: Apocalypse, dark phoenix in 2019 and Deadpool 2 in 2018. Sutliff referred to comics as Cyclops Origins, X factorand Weird X-Men for his research on writing, directing and directing the episodic fan series. In a recent interview with CBR, Sutliff explained why he wanted to focus on the Scott Sumers character in the first place.

“If you watch the Fox movies, Wolverine is the big alpha male of the bunch,” Sutliff said. “He almost runs the show. I’ve read a lot of people complaining that ‘Cyclops doesn’t get enough love.’ So me and my producing partner thought, “You know what? They’re right.” There have been other original Fox movies, like Wolverine, and there are fan-based projects on Wolverine and Gambit, but none on Cyclops at all. He’s the leader of the X-Men. So that’s how it all came together – just a ton of research. I take inspiration from that and bring my own touch to the character.”

Sutliff also said there will “absolutely” be other Marvel heroes “strewn throughout the series,” even a possible appearance from Magneto, though it’s mostly focused on Cyclops and his backstory. “We really want to focus on Scott’s backstory and his story in general, and tell the different events in his life,” he said. “We just want to provide entertainment to people who want it — x-men fans and Cyclops fans – as a treat for them.”

Cyclops Chronicles: The Story of Scott Summers doesn’t have a specific release date yet, but will stream on YouTube and Vimeo in mid-April 2022.
