DreamHost says it has no idea when the web hosting blackout will end

DreamHost customers seem to be losing patience with the hosting company more than a week after they first reported a major outage.

Described as “degraded performance”, the incident disturbs DreamHost users on his share Web hosting services, with the vendor offering a fix shortly after the outage was reported on July 24, 2022.

DreamHost published a status update (opens in a new tab) advising its users that it does not have an ETA on the full restoration of services, but so far has no further details on what happened.

Users outraged by the outage have spent the past ten days venting their frustration on Twitter, with some saying their website had dropped in Google rankings, while others had their entire website taken down.

A DreamHost spokesperson said Tech Radar Pro that among its fleet of more than 30,000 managed servers, this incident impacted only one shared hosting server.

“All customer data is online and available now, but the full restore process on the back-end is taking much longer than we would like due to a combination of several technical factors,” the carrier added. word.

“It is ongoing and we expect the process to complete without incident. We were able to identify a small subset of customers whose sites were not responsive at all at the start of this process, and have since restored service for all who have been affected.”

It’s also unclear if this server outage impacted DreamHost’s other services, including its VPS Hosting solutions and WordPress website builder.

What DreamHost sent, however, was a generic email to its users stating that its technical operations and data center teams were continuing to work on restoring data to its client’s shared server.

“The restore process is still ongoing and is being closely monitored by our administrators. Content is currently being loaded from one of our backup machines, therefore you may continue to experience degraded performance and intermittent errors when data restoration,” the email added.

Twitter users have also complained about DreamHost’s lack of updates, with generic responses sent (opens in a new tab) to those who have been checking the social media platform to know when the issue will be resolved.

Some users have also expressed concern about the lack of information on receiving refunds, as DreamHost does not have an estimated time for a full server restore.
