Luka Modric, who has been linked with a return to Tottenham, has revealed he plans to sign a contract extension with Real Madrid.

Modric has been a great servant to Madrid since swapping Tottenham for Los Blancos in 2012.

Despite being 36, the midfielder is still going strong and continues to be a vital part of Carlo Ancelotti’s line-up.

However, there is some uncertainty over the Croatian’s future as he is now in the final six months of his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Fichajes journalist Ekrem Konur said last week that Madrid were in talks with Modric over a one-year contract extension.

He added that if the club were unable to reach an agreement for the midfielder, Spurs could consider bringing the midfielder back to north London as a free agent this summer.

However, Modric has now poured cold water on speculation linking him with a Madrid exit by insisting he will ‘surely’ reach an agreement with the La Liga giants.

The former Tottenham midfielder said (via fabrice romano): “There is nothing, nothing better for me than being a Real Madrid player.

“I’m not thinking about renewal now. The club knows what I want. We will surely reach an agreement soon.

Boosts web opinion

Speculation linking Modric with a return to Spurs seems to crop up regularly at this time of year. However, the midfielder invariably ends up extending his stay at Madrid.

It’s unlikely to be any different this time around, especially as the former Tottenham man shows no signs of declining despite his age.
